Sky Gazing 2:350:00/2:35
If life's like a movie, then Emotive Grey provides the film score for a drama. The electronic ambient project spearheaded by musician and producer Allen Clark is a vignette of chaos in slow motion. Muted colors, a calm and composed atmosphere – it stills time to appreciate the beauty of disarray. As Clark puts it, “It's about arousing intense feelings, and adding relief from a chaotic world.” And his latest release, Sky Gazing, is a collection of cinematic electronic tracks that take listeners on an emotional thought-provoking journey.
For the Tulsa-based multi-instrumentalist and producer, the journey is everything. From 1999, when listening to George Winston made him first fall in love with music and decide to take piano lessons, to 2013, when his life fell apart, Clark went through difficult moments that led him to quit everything he was involved in, change career paths, as well as quit any side businesses he had been running along with the day job. "That translates to giving up more times than I can count on one hand," he explained. This important transitional journey has led Clark to return to pursuing his passion for music, focusing on transforming his musical ideas into songs: "Each time I gave up I put my energies into destructive habits or working my life away." So Emotive Grey was formed, and Clark decided to channel his energies towards something positive, transposing his experience into new music.
It was a slow process that took him 4 years, before he felt ready for his first release, the debut EP 'Destiny', which was followed by the singles 'Somnolence' and 'Arrival' in 2018. These releases represent a sort of intermediate stage of Emotive Grey's evolutionary vision, that reflects Clark's goal of progressing and growing artistically with each release.
"I attempt to create music for different life moments that I encounter, or others encounter." The artist's goal is to try to overcome his previous version, getting as close as possible to the sound that is in his head and his feelings, with the ultimate goal of transmitting the emotions he sought, probed and channeled.
"Emotive Grey is a journey that I learned to do one day at a time, evolving daily both as a musician and as a producer," he said. "Music is a part of my being. It's not something I want to do but feel like it is something I must do - much like breathing. I can only take so much music in before I have to exhale some of it out. "
Driven by this personal creative inspiration, today Emotive Grey continues to fuel his artistic progression studying composition and orchestration in preparation for multiple releases scheduled in 2024.
